In the morning we will head towards the Somme battlefields to discover the sites of the major allied offensive of 1916 : the impressive mine crater at La Boisselle resulting from a massive explosion on the first day of the battle , the well preserved battlefield at Beaumont-Hamel where you'll be able to walk through a complex network of original allied and German trenches, the Thiepval Memorial to the missing, the village of Pozieres (a landmark site for Australian troops), and the numerous memorials scattered through the now peaceful countryside of the Somme. A visit to the excellent Albert underground museum is also included. After this moving day we will head back to Arras late afternoon.
