Starting at Arras, we will explore the vast network of tunnels: the New Zealand tunnellers were tasked with linking and extending the old quarries under Arras in preparation for a major Allied attack on the Germans. It remains one of the best-preserved traces of New Zealand’s contribution to the First World War.
We will head to Bapaume and Grevillers NZ memorial and follow the route of the New Zealand division in 1918 pushing the Germans back. The heroic liberation of Le Quesnoy was the New Zealanders' last major action in the war. To this day, the town continues to mark the important role that New Zealand played in its history. The tour includes a visit to the new NZ Liberation Museum “Te Arawhata” as well as a walk to the memorial on the old ramparts of the town.
