It's our Regular Day Tour covering Vimy Ridge, the Arras battlefields and Beaumont-Hamel
The tour starts at ARRAS train station at 9.00am. (hotel pick-up at ARRAS is possible as well)
From there we will drive to Vimy ridge to visit the largest Canadian memorial on the Western Front which commemorates nearly 11.000 Canadian soldiers who died in France and have no known grave. The capture of Vimy ridge was a great victory for the Canadian Corps and today it's one of the best preserved World War One battlefields with its preserved trenches, shell holes, mine craters and tunnels. The new visitors centre will be visited and some of the tunnels are open to the public during the season. We will then visit a German cemetery and stop on the "Grand' Place" at ARRAS for lunch.
In the afternoon we will drive the 1916 battlefields to the site of Beaumont-Hamel. The Newfoundland regiment suffered here 90 % casualties on the 1st of July 1916. Nearby is the Thipeval Memorial to the missing, the largest British War memorial in the World. On our way back to ARRAS, we will stop at the Courcelette Canadian memorial.
The tour finishes at ARRAS station at 5.00-5.30pm.
We fully understand the importance of being able to visit a family member's grave, for this reason our itinerary is subject to change depending on private requests. Let us know in adance if you have a particular site or grave to visit.
