Day One: the Somme to the Aisne

                               pick-up at your hotel in PARIS

Drive to the Somme battlefields where we will visit the American monument at Bellicourt and the Riqueval tunnel where the 27th and the 30th U.S Divisions attached to British armies broke through the Hindenburg Line in September 1918. The Somme American cemetery at Bony contains the graves of 1.844 soldiers who lost their lives in the operations in the area and at Cantigny.

Then we will drive to Cantigny to see the 1st U.S Division memorial which commemorate the first large offensive operation by an american unit in World War One. In the forest of Compiègne was signed the armistice on 11 November 1918, a visit to the « clairière de l’armistice » and the museum will not be missed.

At the end of the first day we will stop at Chateau-Thierry to see the impressive American monument to the Aisne, Marne and Oise battles in which so many american soldiers saw action.
