Mémorial franco-britannique
Thiepval - Somme

This imposing monument, built of brick and Portland stone and measuring 45 metres, can be seen from several miles away in every direction. The architect of this massive memorial – the largest British Memorial to the Missing – is Sir Edward Lutyens. Around each of the sixteen pillars are inscribed the names of over 72,000 men - men who died between July 1915 and March 1918 and have never been found or identified.
