French Circuit 'Forgotten battlefields'

"The end of 1914 marked the start of trench warfare - soldiers started digging in - they were to live in these trenches for many months - Somme mud was to become all too familiar.
On the 1st July 1916, in the South of the Somme, the French attacked - taking many of their objectives. The British Army, however, was to suffer the greatest losses ever in one day of fighting. Even though the French were to have this initial success, the battle was to wear on until November 1916.
After the German retreat in 1917, the Somme was to know another Hell - in 1918 the Germans attacked. They were stopped, just in time, before they could reach Amiens.

  • Our program

Our tour in the South of the Somme will allow you discover little known French lines - which also saw action in 1918.
In a wood, you will discover preserved, German, front line trenches. You will also discover the remains of a village, completely destroyed by the fighting. We will visit the largest German cemetery on the Somme. Followed by visiting the grave of Napoleon I ‘s great nephew. We will then visit inside of WW1 bunkers (accessible exclusively through ‘Terresdememoire’).
The British cemeteries in this sector are also a testimony to the fighting of 1918.

And of course we offer personalised tours, (visits to specific cemeteries, historic and commemorative sites). If you wish, we can also research a grave or where a particular regiment fought.
